Galerie Sehnsucht aims to offer a quality selection of photographs from around the world. We offer a vibrant platform and support photography, showcasing ‘new’ photography from emerging and established artists. The gallery is looking for a wide variety of works, ranging from fine art to documentary and photojournalism. Submissions therefore must be photographic or at least lens based but can include incorporations of other art forms within the photographic medium.

Our guideline is that the photographer takes care of providing an artwork ready to hang, and the gallery provides the exhibition, the exhibition space, the opening hours and tries to sell the work. We cater an opening festivity, do publicity through our social and printed media and invite connaisseurs to our venue. We have a quality fine art printing service, and that’s precisily this: a service. We organize the print, but the photographer bears the costs, after having chosen what size to print and what paper to print with. In this manner, we hope to facilitate those that have too little time or live too far away. We expect the photographer to realize he or she has to make a small investment in the artwork itself (which when it is not sold will be his or hers).

All applications must be received before the closing of the call for entries. Applications received after this time cannot be considered. All artists will be contacted within 10 days after closing.

All exhibitions will be installed within a month after the closing of the call. Selected works must be available for installing a week after the selection has been communicated. Photographers selected for the exhibition will therefore be asked to provide a high-resolution TIFF (or JPEG) file, in order to print the work for a standard exhibition copy fee. Exhibition prints (we offer high quality Fine Art prints) are frameless mounted on a board for installation (f. e. aluminium or dibond), and the fee depends on the size of the print and the quality of the board. Exhibition prints made by Galerie Sehnsucht are insured for costprice during exhibition. After the exhibition, photographers can either have them stored at our gallery for another year (we keep them for sale then, through our website and other means), or sent back. Shipping costs and risks are for the photographer. Exhibiting photographers may also opt for shipping their own exhibit-ready prints to the exhibition. In this case the photographer is responsible for the total shipping costs and insurance during transport (back and forth) and exhibition. Galerie Sehnsucht will of course facilitate the return of work.

Submission fee

The non-refundable fee is € 15,00 for 1 work, € 20,00 for 2-3 works and € 25,00 for 4-6 works. The fee is to be paid on submission.

All entries to the call must be made e-mail and all information asked for must be provided. Payment must be completed or submission will not be accepted.

Selected entries

1. Selection

The calls are competitive. A jury will select the works for the exhibition. The name of the jurors is published in the call for entry.

2. Curatorial Approach

Even though the theme of the call/exhibition set by the Gallery’s team, the thematic framework will be developed further in relation to the works submitted for this call. In this way we strive to create a dialogue between the thematic ideas and current artistic practice. Submitting work does not automattically guarantee your work will be included in the exhibition. The jurors selection is final and not open to discussion.

3. Sale

Artists can determine the price their work, but prices may not be less than € 200,00 or higher than € 3000,00 (excl. VAT). Galerie Sehnsucht will strive to sell the exhibited works. Galerie Sehnsucht asks a commission of 35%. Exhibition prints made by Galerie Sehnsucht will be kept in store for a year and will still be on sale. In case of a sale during the show or afterwards the photographer will be immediately informed. After the work has been in store for a year we will contact the photographer to see if he/she wants to own the print. In that case the photographer can collect the print. The website of Galerie Sehnsucht functions as a virtual gallery. All (past) exhibitions will have their own webpage, so all photographs can still be seen by collectors, curators and gallery managers when the exhibition is closed. We take our responsibility to sell your work seriously. This also means we suppose you do not sell the same photographic work elsewhere yourself or with another gallery for a significant other price than the amount for which it is for sale in our venue. We also always like to know when other copies of the same edition are on show elsewhere. This is a responsibility towards our clients that in our opinion photographer and gallery share together.

4. Publicity

The selected works will be presented on the website of Galerie Sehnsucht and be part of the promotional campaign in print and online media, enhancing awareness of the selected works in the photography community. By participating in the call for entries, each participant hereby grants the right to use photos with the names of the authors, and information relating to the work for promotional purposes in connection with the exhibition. No royalties or compensation will be paid for these purposes.

Copyright and third party releases

All copyright and ownership of the works are retained by the photographer. If the photograph contains any material or elements that are not owned by the applicant and/or that are subject to the rights of third parties’ and/or if any persons appear in the photograph, the applicant is responsible for obtaining any and all releases and consents necessary to permit the publication, exhibition and use of the photograph. Submitting photographers agree that they created the Work(s) and/or that they are authorised to use the Work(s) as submitted, co-authors and as relevant original sources should be referenced or credited and that our use of the Work(s) for exhibition and PR will not infringe on third party’s copyright or other rights. Participants assume and accept all legal and financial responsibility for any infringement on the privacy right or copyright of others, caused by creating or presenting their work in public.

Force majeure

Galerie Sehnsucht reserves the right to cancel or reschedule exhibitions in case of a force majeur. Galerie Sehnsucht is not responsible for any problems with or technical malfunction of any telephone, computer online systems, servers or providers, computer equipment, software, failure of any online entry to be received on account of technical problems, human errors of any kind, or any combination.

Right to cancel

Galerie Sehnsucht reserves the right to cancel scheduled exhibitions if any application, in any way, is perceived to have brought the gallery into disrepute. If for any reason the selected submitter is not capable of exhibiting as planned, they should wherever possible give Galerie Sehnsucht at least 2 weeks’ notice to the exhibition launch.

Entry and participation in a Galerie Sehnsucht call implies acceptance of these rules.
