Wanderlust June 20 – August 5
Wanderlust is a German loanword, known to many people, for most of us have this irresistibly strong desire to travel and to wander about. Although the word dates back to the half of the nineteenth century, wandering became fashionable around 1800. Nature, travel, the great unknown gave way to a romantic pace in life where one could slow down and escape everyday hectic. Traveling by foot lead to an encounter with nature that could be experienced physical as well as sensuous. Like on a pilgrimage, one could meet the sublime in nature and in oneself. Nowadays everybody travels. But is it Wanderlust? For ‘you cannot become a wanderer, you are born as one’, Henry David Thoreau said. International photographers will surprise you with their interpretation of the theme.
